Avers Street Bungalow Addition
Located along a block of classic Chicago bungalows in Irving Park, this modern addition respects the established streetscape by preserving the original home's frontage and characteristic roofline. In alignment with the Chicago Bungalow Association’s #StopThePop campaign, the design avoids disruptive vertical expansions that compromise neighborhood cohesion. However, rather than mimicking the existing architectural language through stylistic or material replication, the addition embraces its contemporary identity to create a layered architectural relationship between old and new. This project offers a forward-thinking model for historic home renovation—demonstrating how design can preserve the integrity of traditional architecture while expressing a clear and contemporary point of view.
