Avers Street Bungalow Addition

Located on a block of repeated bungalows in Irving Park, this modern addition maintains the iconic streetscape frontage and roofline of these historic homes. While the design adheres to the recommendations of the Chicago Bungalow Association’s #StopThePop campaign, it also challenges the stylistic and material duplication that guides many of these renovations. This addition accepts its condition as “new”, and uses strategies of contrast and variation to establish a complementary relationship with the original iconic home.
